Prof. Jan-Christoph Heilinger

Jan-Christoph Heilinger (*1977) is currently working as assistant professor (Akademischer Rat) and academic director (Akademischer Geschäftsführer) of the Ethics-Centre at the University of Munich, Germany. He also has an appointment as permanent visiting professor at Ecole Normale Supérieure, Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
He studied philosophy at the Universities of Cologne, Paris (IV-Sorbonne and X-Nanterre), and Berlin (Humboldt) where he received his doctoral degree in philosophy in 2009. After working for Walter de Gruyter publishers (2003–2004), he pursued his research at Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (2005–2010), and the Ethics-Centre at the University of Zurich (2010–2013) before taking up the appointment in Munich in 2013. Jan-Christoph Heilinger has taught philosophy at the Universities of Berlin (HU), Halle, Zurich (UZH), St. Gallen and Munich (LMU). Furthermore, he has held visiting positions at the Ethics-Centre of the University of Zurich (2008) and the departments of philosophy at Columbia University (2009), New York University (2011), Ecole Normale Supérieure, Paris (2012) and the University of Sydney (2017).
He has published and lectured in the field of moral and political philosophy, applied ethics, and philosophical anthropology. His current research interests focus on moral cosmopolitanism and pragmatic ethics. His work so far includes more than 40 articles as well as one authored, one co-authored, and six (co-) edited books.
